Medico Legal Experience

Dr Hannah Bashforth is an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist and has been an Expert witness since 2012. She has Bond Solon training and is instructed on complex clinical negligence and personal injury claims for Claimants and Defendants.

Dr Bashforth has extensive experience in assessing and preparing reports associated with:

Clinical negligence relating to:

  • Assessment of psychological injury in birth trauma
  • Secondary victim claims often involving infant death
  • Psychological injury of delayed diagnoses, including cancer, diabetes, cauda equina and detached retinas
  • Female pelvic pain, gynaecological and obstetric cases

Personal injury relating to:

  • Chronic pain; somatic symptom disorders and functional illnesses
  • Adjustment and psychiatric injury of lifelong physical disability (including spinal cord injury); visual impairment, loss of limbs and life-threatening trauma

Hannah’s appointment availability is 2 weeks and has a report turnaround time of 4-6 weeks.

Clinical Experience

Hannah is an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years’ experience in the NHS and the private sector. She is highly specialist in medical psychology; the application of psychological assessment and treatment in chronic illness, including chronic pain.

Dr Bashforth works at the University of Liverpool and holds a position as an Honorary Clinical Psychologist at The Walton Centre Pain service. She has also worked in several NHS trusts in various medical specialties, including intensive care units. Dr Bashforth is well-published and sits on several national committees, including the British Pain Society and Pain Management Programme Guidelines committee. She is also is regularly asked to peer review work and present at conferences and seminars. In recent times, she has presented at the British Symposium of Diabetic Neuropathy as well as a webinar for the Expert Witness Institute on the role of psychology in litigation in chronic pain cases.

Dr Bashforth is an excellent communicator with invaluable experience in applying her expertise in legal contexts.
