Medico-Legal Experience

Dr Sam Creavin is an experienced General Practitioner (GP) and Expert Witness. He has completed the Cardiff University Bond Solon Civil Expert Certificate and is on the National Register of University Certificated Expert Witnesses. Dr Creavin has also completed the University of Aberdeen Bond Solon certificate for Scotland, further demonstrating his knowledge of producing CPR-compliant reports and commitment to his medico-legal practice.

He is instructed by both claimants and defendants in clinical negligence cases, and by the GMC as part of fitness-to-practice hearings.

Dr Creavin has been an expert witness for over five years and has completed over 200 reports in this time; he has a proven record of delivering timely, precise analysis for legal professionals, and has a reputation for his logical and reasoned approach.

Dr Creavin has extensive experience in reports dealing with delays in the diagnosis and management of sepsis, the diagnosis of cancer (including upper and lower gastrointestinal, skin, and lung), and delayed diagnosis of spinal disorders, as well as prescribing errors in primary care. Additionally, he reports on Armed forces medical negligence within the GP setting and has done several reports in this regard for instructing parties acting for both claimant and defence.

Dr Creavin has experience of giving oral evidence in a Coroner’s court and continues to be available to provide evidence in court when required.

  • Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) (diagnostic challenges and referral standards)
  • Armed forces medical negligence
  • Giant cell arteritis (GCA)
  • Conditions that raise the risk of harm, such as:
    • Atrial fibrillation (AF)
    • Pre-diabetes (increasing the risk of diabetes)
    • Hypertension (increasing the risk of heart disease and stroke)
  • Covid-19-related symptoms:
    • Long Covid
    • Extended loss of sensation (taste/smell)
    • Prolonged respiratory issues

Dr Creavin’s availability is 1-2 weeks and has a report turnaround time of 4 – 6 weeks.

Clinical Experience

Dr Creavin is an experienced General Practitioner with particular expertise in diagnosis in practice. His scope of practice as a General Practitioner includes work in a semi-rural practice of around 5,500 patients.

He has been a GP Partner since 2015 and Senior Partner since April 2021. He is also highly experienced in the out-of-hours GP setting. Dr Creavin is also an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer at the University of Bristol, where he completed a PhD. Here, he contributes to cutting-edge research on dementia diagnosis in general practice.

He still continues to work regularly as a clinician both in-house and out-of-hours, and can offer thorough opinions on the range of care in general practice in the UK during the Covid-19 pandemic, and how this has developed over time.

Dr Creavin graduated with overall Honours and the University Prize, having obtained the highest examination mark in every year of the undergraduate programme.
