Medico-Legal Experience

Mr Papaspyros is an experienced Cardiothoracic Surgeon and expert witness who began his medicolegal career in 2023. He accepts instructions from both claimants and defendants in cases relating to clinical negligence, personal injury, condition and prognosis, liability, and breach of duty.

Mr Papaspyros has covered a wide range of reports throughout his time as an expert witness, commenting on cardiomyopathy, aortic rupture, trauma to the chest as a result of personal injury, and endocarditis. He has particular specialist knowledge in chest trauma, valve replacement, and coronary disease, and has completed many reports covering these topics.

His NHS experience and continued clinical research have provided Mr Papaspyros with invaluable specialist knowledge in cardiothoracic surgery. Paired with his comprehensive understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules Part 35, he is a sought after authority for opinion on personal injury and clinical negligence cases.

He has attended Coroner’s Court and has conducted clinical and police reports for tribunals, inquests, and the coroner’s office. He is available to provide oral evidence in court when required.

Mr Papaspyros’ appointment availability is 4-6 weeks and he has a report turnaround time of 4 – 6 weeks.

Clinical Experience

Mr Papaspyros is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon in Leeds, and his current practice involves all aspects of adult cardiac surgery.

He is the clinical lead for the cardiac surgery department in Leeds General Infirmary and has served as Governance and Mortality Lead for the past two years.

In addition to his clinical work, Mr Papaspyros is also a prolific researcher, with a publication history that covers all aspects of cardiac and thoracic disease, as well as medical education. He has a post-graduate certificate in medical education from the University of Dundee and is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds Medical School, where he is actively involved in teaching and research.

He strongly believes in the covenantal nature of the patient-doctor relationship, which is founded on the principles of kindness, trust, honesty, accountability, availability, and confidentiality.
