Mr Debapriya Bhattacharyya is a Consultant in Neurosurgery and Spinal Surgery and has been preparing medical reports as an expert witness since 2007. He has obtained the full Cardiff University Bond Solon Certificate and accepts cases for clinical negligence, personal injury, and compensation cases in general neurosurgery for both claimants and defendants.
Mr Bhattacharyya has completed reports covering the full breadth of neurosurgery and spinal surgery, including, but not limited to, crush injuries, brain tumours, intracranial bleeding, and decompression fractures. He has particular specialist knowledge in Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES) and degenerative spinal conditions, and has completed a large volume of reports on these topics.
He has built a reputation for his thorough and diligent approach to his medicolegal work and produces timely written and evidence-based reports.
Mr Bhattacharyya has previous court experience, and continues to provide oral evidence in court when required.

Mr Bhattacharyya’s appointment availability is from 4 weeks and has a report turnaround time of 8-12 weeks.
Mr Bhattacharyya trained as a Neurosurgeon in Yorkshire, mainly in the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, with further training in Germany and the United States. He has substantial experience in managing the whole spectrum of neurosurgical conditions in his everyday neurosurgical practice, including all manner of emergencies. Mr Bhattacharyya has introduced new services, including minimally invasive spinal surgery and ‘awake craniotomy’ with brain mapping.
Mr Bhattacharyya has a particular interest in the following areas: head injury and neuro-disability, epilepsy surgery, spinal surgery, back pain, microvascular decompression, facial pain, spinal tumour surgery, and peripheral nerves.
He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1998. He was appointed Consultant in Neurosurgery in Sheffield in 2007 and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Sheffield University.
He is also closely involved in the teaching and training of Neurosurgeons as well as Junior Doctors, being Foundation Programme Director at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
