Medico-Legal Experience

Dr Anthony Hammond is a Rheumatologist who has been an Expert Witness since 2016. He has Bond Solon and CUBS training and is instructed by both Claimants and Defendants in both personal injury and clinical negligence cases.

He has appeared in Court numerous times and is well versed in giving evidence on behalf of both Claimant and Defendant.

Dr Hammond’s appointment availability is 2-4 weeks and has a report turnaround time of 4-6 weeks. 

Clinical Experience

Dr Anthony Hammond qualified in Medicine in Edinburgh and trained in General Medicine and Rheumatology in Bristol, Bath, and London, including at The Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases and St. Bart’s Hospital. He completed an MD thesis on the Immunopathology of SLE under Professor Sir Mark Walport’s supervision at Bart’s Hospital.

In 1992, he became a Consultant Physician and Rheumatologist at Maidstone Hospital, leading and expanding the department to three consultants. He engaged in research, employed two Research Nurses, completed 30 research projects, and published nearly 50 papers.

Dr Hammond left MTW NHS Trust in 2010 to develop the Kent Institute of Medicine and Surgery (KIMS), serving as Clinical Chairman from 2013 to 2016. He specialises in minimally invasive interventional management of spinal pain, focusing on disc-related back pain, slipped discs, and sciatica.

Currently, Dr Hammond practices full-time in Rheumatology and interventional pain management. He works three days a week as a Locum Consultant Rheumatologist, one day in Pain Management at Croydon University Hospital, and one day in private practice at The London Spine Clinic. He remains active in research and education, serving as a Senior Tutor for the Spinal Intervention Society.
