Medico-Legal Experience

Dr Stephen is a Consultant Obstetrician who has a special interest in multiple pregnancies, perinatal mental health and fetal medicine

She has completed the Cardiff University Bond Solon Expert Witness Certificate, having completed the excellence in report writing, cross examination, courtroom skills, and civil law courses.

She is instructed by Claimants and Defendants in clinical negligence and personal injury cases.

Dr Stephen is happy to opine on causation, condition and prognosis, breach of duty and liability.

Dr Stephen has experience in cases relating to:

  • Intrapartum care
  • Delay in diagnosis
  • Fetal medicine
  • Multiple pregnancy management
  • Maternal mental health
  • High risk antenatal care
  • Early neonatal deaths
  • Hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE)
  • Abnormal CTG assessment
  • Mismanagement of DVT/P
  • Failure to discuss risks (foetal macrosomia (large baby))
  • Trauma relating to delivery (mother and baby)
  • Traumatic births
  • Failure to expedite delivery following abnormal red flags:
    – Abnormal CTG
    – Abnormal FBS
    – Breech/footing deliveries

Dr Stephen’s availability is 1 – 2 weeks and has a report turnaround time of 4 – 6 weeks.

Clinical Experience

Dr Stephen is working at one of the biggest maternity care providers in the UK. Currently based at Oxford Road Campus (ORC) that deliver approx. 10,000 babies per annum. She provides tertiary level care to women and babies with complex medical and surgical problems.

Dr Stephen is directly responsible for managing the busy delivery unit, triaging the development and antenatal assessment unit, she oversees 20 delivery rooms, 4 of which are designed for high dependency cases.

Dr Stephen is an advocate for women’s mental health, she collaborated to helped set up the current model for the obstetric perinatal mental health clinic as a subspeciality trainee.

She is responsible for chairing the monthly labour ward forum. This in turn creates discussions to improve the safety and quality of care provided.

Dr Stephen is a member for the Greater Manchester Perinatal and Parent-Infant Mental Health Expert reference group. She is also chair of an obstetric steering group contributing to the development of GMEC Strategic Clinical Network Antenatal and Postnatal Mental Health Guide.
