Medico-Legal Experience

Dr Jeremy Axon is a Consultant in Rheumatology and has been an expert witness since 1994. He has received training from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and is instructed by both claimants and defendants.

Dr Axon accepts instructions for personal injury and clinical negligence cases, covering condition and prognosis, causation, liability, and breach of duty. He has reported in excess of 1,000 reports over the last 30 years as a medicolegal expert, and has particular specialist experience in fibromyalgia, inflammatory rheumatic disorders, and sports injuries.

Dr Axon has amassed invaluable knowledge from working within both the NHS and privately, and has extensive experience in various facets of the law, including criminal, military, and industrial disease. Over the past 30 years, Dr Axon has built a reputation for his methodical and detailed approach to his medicolegal reports, and continues to strengthen his rapport with instructing solicitors and reporting organisations.

He produces an average of 60+ reports a year, covering the full breadth of rheumatology, including but not limited to lupus, arthritis, tendonitis, and frozen shoulder.

Dr Axon can provide oral evidence in court when required, and has done so 3 times during his time as an expert witness.

Dr Axon’s appointment availability is 3 weeks and has a report turnaround time of 4-6 weeks. 

Clinical Experience

Dr Axon trained at Charing Cross Hospital and qualified in 1984. He then completed his higher specialist training in Rheumatology at Oxford, which included formal accreditation in Rehabilitation Medicine, which provided him with the foundations in functional impairment and musculoskeletal disability.

He has been a Consultant Rheumatologist at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, Welwyn Garden City, and Hertford County Hospital since 1994, and is a member of the Alliance Surgical Company. He has also linked up with the Stevenage Trust in North Hertfordshire and works in a combined department covering a population of over 500,000. His long-standing post as a Consultant showing his experience in both general and specialist Rheumatology.

He has a special interest in rheumatological conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis, and the effect of trauma on fibromyalgia conditions, chronic pain syndromes, rehabilitation issues after trauma, and orthopaedic aspects post-injury.

His background in Rehabilitation Medicine is reflected through his holistic and functional approach to patient care and assessment. He also has a research interest in pain management techniques in chronic arthritis conditions.
