Medico-Legal Experience

Dr Loughlin is a Consultant Psychiatrist with over 20 years’ medico-legal experience.

He has completed both Bond Solon and APIL training and has prepared reports for personal injury, work-related stress, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), fitness to work, mental capacity issues, lasting power of attorney and testamentary capacity.

Dr Loughlin is instructed on personal injury and clinical negligence cases for Claimants and Defendants in cases associated with:

  • RTA
  • Mental capacity
  • PTSD
  • Generalised anxiety disorder
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • Depression
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Mild cognitive impairment
  • Dementia(s)

Dr Loughlin’s appointment availability is 2-3 weeks and report turnaround time is 2-4 weeks.

Clinical Experience

Dr Loughlin is a consultant psychiatrist with almost 30 years’ experience diagnosing and treating a range of psychological problems in adults, including: ADHD, bipolar disorder, cognitive and memory disorders, depression, generalised anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, psychoses and panic disorder.

He holds Approved Clinician status and can undertake Mental Health Act Assessments as a Section 12 Approved Doctor.

Dr Loughlin offers genetic testing through myogenes and ongoing cognitive testing in collaboration with Creyos (formerly Cambridge Brain Sciences) to track changes in cognitive function over time.

His clinical approach is holistic, non-judgemental and not just focused on a diagnosis. He works in partnership with patients with respect and empathy, and recommends psychological treatment before medication when safe to do so.

Dr Loughlin led the developments to the opening of the Berkshire Memory and Cognition Research Centre based at the University of Reading in 2014. He was also a principal investigator in several dementia research studies whilst working in his NHS post.
