Mr Volpin has been a medico-legal expert since 2018, providing expert opinions in both single and joint expert capacities. He is instructed by both Claimants and Defendants on clinical negligence and personal injury cases.
His specialised expertise lies in hip and knee arthroplasty, reconstructive and sports knee surgery, with a focus on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, meniscal repair, complex multiligament reconstructions and knee preservation procedures.
He is fully trained in Bond Solon’s Excellence in Report Writing and Courtroom Skills and has completed the MedCo Mandatory Accredited Training as well as Medical Ethics & Law training through the Medical Defence Union (MDU).
Mr Volpin has a yearly output of approx. 100 reports, including over 40 in clinical negligence. Mr Volpin is well versed in providing expert opinions on condition, prognosis, breach of duty, liability and causation.

Mr Volpin is a full-time substantive Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a designated Level 1 Major Trauma Centre in the UK. He has extensive experience in acute trauma and elective orthopaedics, gained across several leading UK teaching hospitals.
From May 2020 to March 2025, he held a substantive Consultant post in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery at NHS Grampian, where he also served as an Honorary Associate Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen.
Mr Volpin completed his medical degree and higher specialist training in Trauma and Orthopaedics at the University of Padua, Italy, followed by advanced training in the UK at University College London Hospitals and the Princess Royal University Hospital, part of King’s College Hospital. To refine his subspecialist expertise, he undertook two post-CCT fellowships in Knee Surgery and Lower Limb Arthroplasty at the Royal Derby Hospital and the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, complemented by international travelling fellowships at BC (Vancouver) and UCSF (San Francisco).
His clinical interests encompass trauma, joint arthroplasty, arthroscopic surgery, soft-tissue and sports injuries, and general orthopaedic conditions, with a specialist focus on Trauma and Lower Limb Surgery. He regularly treats both amateur and professional athletes, with particular expertise in sports injury management, return-to-play strategies, and joint preservation techniques.
Mr Volpin is the author of five book chapters and thirty-seven papers published in peer-reviewed journals.
