Medico-Legal Experience

Mr Andy MacKellar has been an expert witness for over 6 years. He completes clinical negligence, personal injury and quantum/liability reports on behalf of both the claimant and defendant. He has a balanced ratio of personal injury to clinical negligence cases relating to both adult and paediatric (aged 12+). From working within the NHS and now privately, he has amassed extensive experience covering a wide range of physiotherapy matters, including but not limited to neurorehabilitation, loss of balance and mobility issues, sports injuries, and Parkinson’s Disease.

He has particular reporting experience and interest in strokes, head injuries, and rarer neurological disorders, including Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Motor Neurone Disease (MND). He has completed many medico-legal reports relating to these conditions, often involving long-term rehabilitation needs and functional impairment.

Mr MacKellar is registered with the Health Professions Council (HCPC) and is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).

Mr MacKellar is recognised for his methodical and detailed approach to producing clear and evidence-based reports within the agreed timescales. Mr MacKellar can provide oral evidence in court when required.

Clinical Experience

Mr MacKellar is the founder and operator of S.H.I.P.S. Physio, a clinic and visiting service dedicated to assisting individuals with stroke, head injuries, and multi-trauma conditions. He offers a range of clinical services, including diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation. He also delivers essential consultation and guidance to case managers, solicitors, nursing homes, private clients, and organisations such as The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust.

Before this, Mr MacKellar held a significant role as a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in Neurology at the Manchester Neurotherapy Centre, managing a diverse caseload of patients. Mr MacKellar took charge of clinical supervision for student physiotherapists and actively supported the centre’s directors in facilitating clinical placements for Bobath Tutors in Training.

In 2000, Mr MacKellar founded a specialised physiotherapy clinic in Whitchurch, Shropshire, focusing on delivering tailored treatment for stroke and head injury patients while concurrently sharing expertise through postgraduate-level teaching and courses designed for fellow clinicians.

Throughout his career, Mr MacKellar has been an ardent advocate for education and training. From 1990 to 2010, Mr MacKellar served as a clinical educator for esteemed institutions such as Salford, Keele, Manchester, and Wolverhampton Universities. His teaching portfolio includes subjects like moving and handling, stroke awareness, and stroke management. Notably, he conducted courses for reputable entities, including Crossroads, Liverpool Social Services, Flintshire Social Services, and The Stroke Association, in addition to collaborating with numerous nursing homes.

Yes, I can assist - I have plenty of experience with amputees, a good mix of "medical" amputees , i.e. from Diabetes, as well as trauma resulting in amputation and elective amputation late after trauma.

Do you specialise in pelvic health?

I am not the right person for this, it is over 40 years since I was involved in obs and gynae.
