Clinical Experience

Mr Bhattacharyya trained as a Neurosurgeon in Yorkshire, mainly in the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals with further training in Germany and the United States. He has substantial experience of managing the whole spectrum of neurosurgical conditions in his everyday neurosurgical practice including all manner of emergencies. Dr Bhattacharyya has introduced new services including minimally invasive spinal surgery and ‘awake craniotomy ‘ with brain mapping.

Mr Bhattacharyya’s has a particular interest in the following areas: head injury and neuro-disability, epilepsy surgery, spinal surgery and back pain, microvascular decompression and facial pain, spinal tumour surgery, peripheral nerves and their injury.

He became a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1998. He was appointed Consultant in Neurosurgery in Sheffield in 2007 and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Sheffield University.

He is also closely involved in the teaching and training of Neurosurgeons as well as Junior Doctors, being Foundation Programme Director at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
