Medico-Legal Experience

Mr Francis Brooks is an established Expert Witness and has been providing medico-legal assessments and reports since 2017. He has undertaken specialist training with Bond Solon, completing the Excellence in Report Writing and holds the Cardiff University Bond Solon Certificate.

He is instructed by both claimants and defendants on personal injury, clinical negligence, and criminal cases. Mr Brooks has a deep understanding of the principles of Civil Procedure Rules Part 35 and his duty to the court, and is known for his timely and thorough approach to his reports.

Since 2017, Mr Brooks has completed over 500 reports, covering a variety of paediatric and adult cases, including, but not limited to, spinal instability, tumours, infection, and Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES). He has a particular interest in adult degenerative spinal conditions, and prepares approximately 10 reports per month, with half of this caseload relating to clinical negligence claims.

Mr Brooks has received a number of witness summons for Court attendance but has yet to attend trial. He has completed the Courtroom Skills Training Bond Solon course and is able to provide oral evidence in court when required.

Mr Brooks’ availability is around 4 weeks and he has a report turnaround time of 4-6 weeks.

 

Clinical Experience

Mr Brooks is a Consultant Spinal Surgeon with two internationally respected fellowships. He graduated in 2013 with an MSc in Health Sciences (Trauma and Orthopaedics) from Warwick University, and is experienced in the treatment of all degenerative adult spinal conditions as well as trauma, tumour, and infection.

He provides on-call cover for traumatic paediatric spinal injuries and is one of a few surgeons in the UK who is trained in Endoscopic spinal surgery.

Mr Brooks has presented research at numerous international meetings and has been awarded the prestigious Rob Johnston Award for his research and the BASS Presidential Travelling Fellowship. He has also published over 20 papers on general trauma and spinal surgery. Mr Brooks has a broad range of experience treating degenerative spinal disease and has a particular interest in clinical leadership and quality improvement.
