Medico-Legal Experience

Mr Jong Kim is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon and has been an expert witness since 2005. He has completed various medicolegal training courses including, Bond Solon, Specialist Info expert writing, Coroner’s Court, legal issues and inquest management, demonstrating his commitment to his expert witness work.

He accepts instructions from both claimants and defendants in cases relating to personal injury, clinical negligence, condition and prognosis, causation, liability, and breach of duty. Mr Kim has reported on a variety of cases, including, but not limited to, skin cancer, facial regeneration, breast surgery, and abdominoplasty.

He has particular specialist knowledge in hand and cosmetic surgery, microsurgical reconstructions, and melanomas, and has completed many reports on these topics throughout his career. Mr Kim regularly attends medicolegal courses to stay up-to-date with the Civil Procedure Rules Part 35.

Mr Kim is available to provide oral evidence in court when required.

Mr Kim’s appointment availability is approximately 1-2 weeks and he has a report turnaround time of 2 – 4 weeks.  

Clinical Experience

Mr Kim is currently appointed as a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at The University Hospital of North Durham. He is also a Senior Clinical Lecturer at Newcastle University.

Mr Kim qualified in medicine from Edinburgh University in 1997 and completed the Higher Specialist Plastic Surgery Programme on the Cambridge University rotation, obtaining the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS Plast) in 2012.

During his surgical training, he completed his PhD at one of the world’s leading cancer institutes: The Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, at the University College in London. Mr Kim also had the opportunity to explore his interest in psychology, completing his MSc. (Psych) degree.

Mr Kim was awarded the Lawyer’s Monthly Expert Witness Award 2019 and 2020 winner by nominations in plastic, hand and cosmetic surgery and won the Young Scientist Award for Translational Research by the European Association of Cancer Research.
