Medico-Legal Experience

Mr Max Almond is a Consultant General Surgeon and Expert Witness. He has over 20 years of experience as a medico-legal expert and has given opinion on over 400 personal injury and clinical negligence cases.

He is instructed by both claimants and defendants and has completed a wide range of reports covering the full breadth of general surgery, including gunshot wounds, stabbing injuries, mismanagement of hepatobiliary disease, and post-operative complications. Mr Almond has particular experience and interest in oncology and abdominal trauma, and throughout his time in the NHS, has amassed extensive knowledge in these topics.

Mr Almond has completed Bond Solon training and has specialist experience in root cause analysis, investigation and police witness statements. He can opine on condition and prognosis, breach of duty, liability, and causation.

Clinical Experience

Mr Almond is the Lead for Governance in Emergency General Surgery across the largest NHS Teaching Trust in the UK and has written over 70 research articles, including publications in Nature and the British Journal of Surgery.

His specialist areas include abdominal trauma surgery, surgical oncology (soft tissue sarcoma, gastrointestinal stromal tumours, adrenal tumours and neuroendocrine tumours, emergency general surgery (appendicitis, bowel obstruction, peritonitis, jaundice), benign hepatobiliary surgery (laparoscopic cholecystectomy, ERCP), upper gastrointestinal surgery (hiatus hernia repairs, anti-reflux surgery, splenectomy), elective general surgery (open and laparoscopic hernia repairs, lipoma excision), diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.

Mr Almond is also highly skilled at open, laparoscopic (keyhole) and endoscopic procedures.
