Mr. John Kitchen

Returning by popular demand, Mr. John Kitchen will once again grace our event with his profound insights into paediatric and traumatic brain injury. Mr. Kitchen is a highly respected Consultant Paediatric Neurosurgeon and Expert Witness, renowned for his comprehensive expertise in all aspects of paediatric neurosurgery. His impressive career includes affiliations with The Institute of Neurological Sciences, The Walton Centre for Neurology, Great Ormond Street Hospital, and The Brain Injury Research Group.

Mr. Kitchen’s specialisation in Neuro-oncology focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of brain and spinal tumours in paediatric patients. With over 100 reports and more than two years of experience as a medicolegal expert, he has provided valuable opinions in both clinical negligence and personal injury cases. His clinical practice encompasses a wide range of neurosurgical areas, including trauma management, hydrocephalus, neuro-endoscopy, Chiari and syringomyelia treatments, spinal dysraphism interventions, and neurological infection management.

Ben Collins KC

Ben Collins KC, an esteemed barrister from Old Square Chambers, is recognised as a Leading Silk in clinical negligence and personal injury. With extensive experience handling serious brain injuries in children, Ben has achieved significant success in high-profile cases, including a paediatric TBI case that settled for £26 million earlier this year.

His practice spans personal injury, clinical negligence, professional regulation, employment, and public law. Ben has over 50 reported cases and has appeared in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court multiple times. His exceptional legal acumen and dedication to his clients have earned him accolades such as Pro Bono Silk of the Year and Barrister of the Year.

Mr. Ian James MacKendrick

Ian James MacKendrick, Fellow and Chartered Financial Planner and Expert Witness

With over 30 years of experience in the financial sector, Mr. Ian James MacKendrick is a Director of Paladin Advice, an Independent Chartered Financial Advisers firm. As an expert witness, Mr. MacKendrick has delivered hundreds of cases, particularly those quantifying financial loss and is well positioned to deliver the latest insights on how to quantify loss in TBI cases.

His emphasis on accuracy and accountability makes his insights invaluable. He regularly lectures and provides training to various organisations, including the OPG, charities, case managers, law firms, barristers, and their supporting bodies.
