Medico-Legal Experience

Dr Salman Shafiq completed Bond Solon training in report writing in 2025. Over the years, he has completed many tribunal reports within his professional role as a middle-grade and consultant-grade psychiatrist.

He accepts instructions from both claimants and defendants, and can report on cases relating to personal injury, clinical negligence (on a case-by-case basis), condition and prognosis, causation, liability, and breach of duty.

Dr Shafiq covers the full breadth of psychiatry, including, but not limited to, major affective disorders such as depression and personality disorders, work-related stress, Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), schizophrenia, and panic disorders. He has particular specialist knowledge of psychopathology and psychopharmacology.

He has been a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists since 2017 and has extensive experience within the NHS and private practice, which is evident in his methodical and evidence-based approach to his medicolegal reports.

Dr Shafiq is available to provide oral evidence in court when necessary.

Clinical Experience

Dr Salman Shafiq is a Consultant Psychiatrist with over 10 years’ consultant-level experience across general adult and older adult mental health services in the UK and internationally. He is GMC-registered with specialist registration in General Adult Psychiatry. He has held substantive and long-term locum consultant posts within NHS services, including community, inpatient, crisis, memory assessment, early intervention, perinatal, and forensic settings.

He combines his extensive NHS consultant-level psychiatric experience with a strong cross-cultural and academic focus. Dr Shafiq has significant expertise in the cultural aspects of mental health, particularly within South Asian communities, including Pakistani and Indian populations. He completed his Bachelor of Medicine/Surgery (MBBS) in 2001, and then obtained various medical and post-graduate diplomas in Clinical Hypnosis, Clinical Psychiatry, Medical Leadership, and Medical Research.

His research portfolio, book, and peer-reviewed publications predominantly explore culturally informed understandings of mental illness, as well as the psychological and social dimensions of hatred, with a focus on understanding its causes and identifying ways to address its various manifestations. Dr Shafiq is also an accredited Balint Group leader, registered with the British Balint society.
